This lovely jewel dates from the mid Victorian period when a love of history and a fascination with archaeology influenced designs in every aspect of life from faux Roman Ruins in your garden to Classic designs in jewelry.

A beautifully carved banded agate intaglio of the Goddess Terpsichore in flowing fabric playing a lyre is surrounded by a frame of creamy pearls in pronged baskets. The brooch has three pendant pearls and comes with a brilliant fitting that slides over the pin to create a pendant. The pendant fitting has a nicely detailed bale, it looks equally lovely on a ribbon or chain. The Gold is solid 18k and the pearls are creamy white and wonderfully matched. Circa 1860.

Details.....The brooch is 2.13" long, including the pearl pendants, and 1.13" at the widest point. The pearls range in size from 3.5mm to 5.8mm. In Very Good Antique Condition. You should always expect some wear on vintage and antique jewels.
